Long Island welcomes its first Padel& location in Syosset — Babylon Health news

Padel, a sport that originated in Acapulco, Mexico, is one of the largest growing sports across the United States, according to Sebastian Goercke, manager of Long Island’s first Padel location in Syosset.  Padel combines aspects of tennis, pickleball, racquetball and squash and has been growing fast in places where people are familiar with at least one of those games, Goercke said in an interview.  “You can play like tennis or pickleball because you have the net and the sides, and you also have the glass in the end, so you can play like squash or racquetball,” Goercke said. “You can play like it's a mix of those sports at the same time in this game.” Padel first emerged in the U.S. in the early 1990s after its start in Mexico in 1969. Goercke said he began playing when he lived in Ecuador, where he’s from. He said he’s been involved with the sport for the past six years, but wasn’t always as proficient in it as he is now.
